Marco Rubio first entered the political arena in 1999, becoming a member of the Florida House of Representatives. In 2006, he was elected Speaker of the Florida House and served in that role until 2008, when he left the legislature.

In 2010, Rubio secured a seat in the U.S. Senate. On April 13, 2015, he announced his candidacy for the 2016 U.S. presidential election as a Republican. However, after losing the Florida primary, Rubio withdrew from the race on March 15, 2016. During the campaign, Donald Trump famously ridiculed Rubio by calling him 'Little Marco,' which strained their relationship.

After Trump’s victory in the 2016 election, the two reconciled. Rubio informally served as a foreign policy advisor during Trump’s presidency. He also offered support during the 2020 election contest between Trump and Joe Biden.

Currently serving as a long-time Senator from Florida, Marco Rubio has been announced as Trump’s candidate for Secretary of State. Trump officially revealed his plans to nominate Rubio via social media on Thursday. If formally nominated, Rubio would require confirmation by the Senate.

According to a report first published in The New York Times, citing sources close to Trump, Rubio is expected to join the new cabinet as Secretary of State. Rubio, who has long been vocal on issues related to Russia, has previously used strong rhetoric against the country. This aligns with Trump’s foreign policy vision of 'promising to end the war in Ukraine.'

In addition, Rubio’s past comments on Iran and China, as well as his unwavering support for Israel, are being revisited. Given his strong stances, Rubio is expected to play a pivotal role in U.S.-China relations and the ongoing crises in the Middle East.
