On June 1st, 1937, Morgan Freeman was born in Memphis, Tennessee. He is the child of Mayme Edna and Morgan Porterfield Freeman. According to his DNA research, some of his origins are from Nigeria in Africa; he was raised in a well-established Christian household from Memphis, Tennessee, and has three older siblings.

When he was a child, Freeman was sent to live with his maternal grandmother in Charleston, Mississippi. He moved about a lot when he was growing up, eventually settling in Greenwood, Mississippi, Gary, Indiana, and Chicago, Illinois. When Freeman was 16 years old, he developed pneumonia. Morgan Freeman made his acting debut at the age of nine when he played the main character in a school play.

He then attended Threadgill Elementary School, formerly Broad Street High School, in Greenwood, Mississippi. At the age of 12, he took first place in a state-wide drama competition. As he adjusted to school, he also discovered music and theater. 

After that, he accepted a partial theater scholarship to attend Jackson State University in Mississippi, USA, but he decided to forgo graduation to enlist in the US Air Force. Morgan relocated to Los Angeles after serving in the Air Force to enroll in acting classes at the Pasadena Playhouse.

Alfonso, Deena, Morgana, and Saifoulaye are the names of Freeman's four children. E'dena Hines, Freeman's step granddaughter from his first marriage, was also raised by Freeman and Colley-Lee. 33-year-old Hines was killed in New York City on August 16, 2015.

Freeman keeps a residence in New York City and lives in Charleston, Mississippi. At the age of 65, he obtained his private pilot's license. He now owns, or has previously owned, a Cessna Citation 501, a Cessna 414, and an Emivest SJ30.

He is well-known for his advocacy in addition to his successful acting career. I don't want a black history month, Freeman declared in 2005, criticizing the commemoration of black history. American history is black history.

Freeman was involved in a rollover car accident in 2008 that shattered his left arm and shoulder, caused nerve damage to the leg, and almost crushed his left hand. He is still dealing with the effects of this event, which has left his left hand only 'ornamental.' 

His left arm hangs limply and his left hand is usually gloved when you see him in recent movies. He still needs to apply a compression bandage to prevent his hand's blood from collecting. He almost definitely finds it challenging to work because of that.
