High-Tech Rescue: Smart Shepherd Uses Drone to Spot and Save Goats Trapped on Cliff
Technology has been advancing at an astonishing pace in recent years, and this progress is beginning to transform not only our everyday lives, but also some professions that have remained virtually unchanged for thousands of years. One of these is shepherding. In the past, a shepherd would have to walk for hours in mountainous terrain to find any lost or straying animals. Today, many shepherds have delegated this task to drones. Being able to scan miles of area within minutes with a small device saves both time and effort significantly.
One shepherd noticed that a portion of his goat herd had climbed to the edge of a steep and rocky cliff. When he checked with his drone, he saw that the goats were in a very risky spot. He managed to safely lower the goats from the cliff, where it would have been nearly impossible for him to climb, in a matter of seconds with the help of the drone. The shepherd, who posts under the name 'tekno-shepherd', truly lived up to his name.

Technology is turning everything upside down!
Goats are animals that have evolved to navigate steep and rocky terrains. This instinct, inherited from the ancestors of wild goats, drives them to climb narrow ledges and sheer cliffs to keep away from predators. Their hoof structure and balance systems allow them to stand comfortably on slopes that seem impossible to the human eye. However, this natural skill can sometimes lead them to points of risk that a shepherd cannot leave unattended, especially steep slopes where fresh grass is found, which are quite attractive to goats.
This is where drone technology comes into play, providing a significant contribution to traditional shepherding methods. In the past, a shepherd had to walk for hours to find his lost or straying animals. Now, the entire flock's location can be determined from the air in just a few minutes. Moreover, some models with sound systems can also serve to direct the animals in a certain direction without stressing them. Yet, in some situations, drone technology alone may not be sufficient. Particularly, the shepherd himself may need to go to the location to safely retrieve animals that are stuck between rocks or caught in certain plants. Technology accelerates the search process here, but experience and calmness are still indispensable.
