The Kesikkayalar area, located within the boundaries of the Yolağzı village in the Posof district, has proven to be of more value than just a natural formation in light of recent archaeological studies. Uğur Dede, the Director of Culture and Tourism in Ardahan, states that this area is not just a simple burial ground, but rather, it hosts a large medieval complex.

Dede expresses the historical story of the region with these words:

'The legend has it that when Queen Tamara was passing through this region, the Iranian troops following her closed the tunnel in the Kesikkayalar region. And Tamara, who was an important figure for them, dies here... But that's not all; this region belongs to the medieval period. Columns were detected in the examinations conducted in what we call open caves and guard caves.'

Indeed, research conducted in 2024 revealed that the remains found in the region cannot be explained by natural formation.

The headman of Yolağzı Village, Fehim Gündüz, shares some frightening details about the mysterious structure of the Posof Kesikkayalar region:

'In previous research conducted by the Georgians, they themselves say that the tomb of Queen Tamara is in the Posof Kesikkayalar region. According to the legend, we can talk about a settlement area with 205 rooms inside Kesikkaya. The length of the rocks from the top is 800 meters, the height is 150 meters, and there are guard caves on both sides.'

The most exciting and mysterious aspect of this historical legend is a stone door that has not yet been passed. Gündüz states, 'The door of one of the guard caves is made of stone and the bottom part cannot be descended. It has been damaged over time due to landslides.'

For now, it is not certain whether Queen Tamara is lying in the 205-room labyrinth behind this stone door, which was closed by a landslide. However, it is expected to be revealed with new archaeological excavations.
