Wanted to Buy a Painting: Became a Painter
Şahinde Ermiş, who lives in Zonguldak, started her art journey with a painting she saw in a market years ago. She wanted to buy the painting she liked, but when she couldn't find the painting later, she decided to make her own painting, saying, 'I can do it too.'
She bought her materials from the stationery and stood in front of the canvas. She had never received any painting training before. However, instead of giving up, she continued to try.
She Watched Bob Ross to Learn
Ermiş started learning how to paint by watching Bob Ross's programs. She developed how to use the brush and how to bring colors together by experimenting.
Ermiş, who made 44 paintings in her first period, opened her first exhibition in 2006. Even though years have passed, her passion for painting has not decreased. Today, Ermiş, who has about 80 paintings in her house, especially brings nature landscapes and old village houses to the canvas. She almost revives some houses that were in her village in the past but are no longer there by painting them.
"I Forget the World While Painting"
Painting is not just a hobby for Şahinde Ermiş, she always makes time for her canvas amid her daily tasks. Most of the time, she paints on her balcony when she is in the village. She describes the feeling that has kept her painting for years with these words:
'I forget the world when I paint.'
Perhaps that's why she never lets go of her brush, no matter how many years pass. With each painting, she learns a little more, produces a little more.
81-Year-Old Counts the Days for Her Second Exhibition
