Always Tired Despite Sleeping Well? Medical Experts Reveal 10 Root Causes of Fatigue
Do you still feel tired when you wake up in the morning? Moreover, no matter how much you rest, if your fatigue does not go away and you do not feel well, the problem may be much bigger than you think. Expert Dr. Fatma Özenç Turşak explained the 10 reasons for constant fatigue to IHA.
Here are the details.
What's Behind Constant Fatigue?
Internal Medicine Specialist Dr. Fatma Özenç Turşak emphasizes that persistent fatigue despite sufficient sleep should not be overlooked. There can be many different reasons underlying fatigue, from vitamin and mineral deficiencies to sleep disorders, hormonal problems to some chronic diseases. Here are 10 important reasons that can cause you to feel constantly tired:
1. Iron Deficiency
The body's inability to carry enough oxygen can cause weakness and low energy. Iron deficiency, in particular, is among the common causes of long-term fatigue.
2. B12 and D Vitamin Deficiency
Some vitamin and mineral deficiencies can also make you feel exhausted throughout the day. In addition to fatigue, forgetfulness and concentration problems can be seen in B12 deficiency.
3. Thyroid Problems
Slow functioning of the thyroid gland can affect metabolism and cause constant fatigue. If complaints such as feeling cold, weight change, and dry skin are also present, it should be taken into consideration.
4. Poor Sleep Quality
If you say, 'I slept for 8 hours, why am I still sleepy?' then it may be necessary to look at sleep quality rather than sleep duration. Especially snoring, night-time breathlessness, and morning headaches can indicate sleep apnea. Also, sleeping away from white light, i.e. screens, can improve your sleep quality.
5. Blood Sugar Problems
If constant fatigue is accompanied by excessive thirst, frequent urination, or dry mouth, problems related to blood sugar can also be investigated.

6. Inadequate Nutrition and Water Intake
Not drinking enough water throughout the day or irregular eating can also reduce energy. Particularly, a diet that is high in heavily processed and sugary foods can increase feelings of fatigue.
7. Stress and Mental Fatigue
Sometimes it's not the body, but the mind that gets tired. Long-term stress, lack of desire and not wanting to do anything can make a person feel physically exhausted as well.
8. Rheumatic Diseases
If there is joint pain, swelling or particularly morning stiffness along with fatigue, rheumatic diseases can also be considered among the possibilities.
9. Kidney Problems
Some kidney diseases can progress without causing any noticeable complaints for a long time. Constant fatigue, however, can sometimes be a symptom of such problems.
10. Underlying Another Disease
Fatigue alone does not mean a serious illness. However, if unexplained weight loss, fever, night sweats or other unusual symptoms accompany fatigue that does not pass for a long time, it should definitely be taken into account.
A few days of fatigue can often be associated with a busy pace or lack of sleep.
However, if you have enough sleep but still feel tired for weeks, you need to investigate the cause. Because what's important is not just to relieve fatigue, but to understand why the body is sending such a signal.
