Is there anyone among us who doesn't love french fries?
We can almost hear you saying 'no' to this question. Despite being incredibly tasty, it's a well-known fact that french fries are not the healthiest option due to their deep-fried preparation. Consequently, achieving that same crispy texture and flavor with homemade fries can be quite a challenge.
However, researchers from the University of Illinois in the United States claim to have discovered a method for making 'crispy' french fries without the need for excessive oil.
Moreover, this method also preserves the taste and texture of the potato.
Here's the most ideal method for making 'crispy' fries, according to science.
According to scientists, the ideal method for frying potatoes combines traditional frying with microwave heating.
Researchers recommend microwaving the potatoes for a while before frying them. This process, they say, allows the water inside the potatoes to evaporate.
A study published in the journal 'Current Research in Food Science' suggests that when the water inside the potatoes evaporates, it increases 'positive pressure'. Consequently, when we throw the potatoes into hot oil, they absorb less oil.
On the other hand, trying to fry potatoes solely in the microwave doesn't yield good results as it softens the potatoes. However, it is suggested that with this method, you can achieve healthier and ideally crispy potatoes.
