Hidden Treasure 3km Underground: Cave Discovered Covered in Rare Pearls in Vietnam!
A colossal cave has been discovered in the Phong Nha–Ke Bang National Park, which is located in Vietnam's Quang Tri province and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. What makes the cave interesting and special is not only its size, but also the extraordinary geological treasure that nature has formed over hundreds of thousands of years. The cave, which is approximately 3 kilometers long, is covered with rare cave pearls and giant stalactites that nature has formed over hundreds of thousands of years.
Here are the details.
A New Natural Wonder Hidden Underground
The discovery made in the Phong Nha–Ke Bang National Park, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage list, added another gem to the underground riches of the region.
The cave, which was revealed as a result of research conducted jointly by the local cave exploration team and national park experts, was named 'Thang Cave' in memory of the local resident who first noticed the entrance point. The word 'Thang' means 'victory' in Vietnamese.
Access to the 3 Kilometer Cave was Achieved by Rappelling
According to initial examinations, the cave is approximately 3 thousand meters long and averages 70 meters in width. It is also stated that the width exceeds 100 meters in some galleries. The exit point of the cave, which has two different entrances, consists of a narrow passage that only one person can pass through.
Giant Stalactites and Rock Columns Reaching 50 Meters
The research team discovered giant stalactites stretching along the cave, as well as rock columns reaching approximately 50 meters in height, wide stone curtains, and different mineral formations.
Discovery That Excites Scientists: Cave Pearls
The most striking part of the discovery was the cave pearls found in the natural rock pools on the cave floor.
Cave pearls are formed by the layer-by-layer accumulation of calcium carbonate-rich drip waters around small rock fragments over thousands, even hundreds of thousands of years. Thanks to the constantly moving water, these formations, with their smooth surfaces and round appearances resembling pearls, attract attention.
According to experts, cave pearls can be seen in some caves in different regions of the world. However, it is considered extremely rare to come across clusters of cave pearls of this size and density. Therefore, this discovery is considered one of the most remarkable cave discoveries in recent years.
