Amy Poehler’s ‘Lucy and Desi’ Comes to Amazon Prime Video on March 4

I love Lucy fans are happy to know that a new documentary Lucy and Desi, directed by Amy Poehler, will premiere on Friday, March 4 2022, on Amazon Prime Video.

The documentary narrates the behind-the-screens story of the most influential Hollywood couple back in the days, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. 

Lucy and Desi also explores how Ball and Arnaz met, became a couple and rose to television trailblazers, cementing their showbiz legacy. The power couple founded Desilu Productions behind the I Love Lucy comedy show and many other famous films including Star Trek and Mission Impossible.

Prime Video dropped the documentary’s official trailer on February 14, which explores the bitter-sweet union and partnership between Ball and Arnaz, eventually ending in divorce because of Arnaz’s infidelity. Lucie Arnaz, the couple’s daughter mentions in the trailer, “Their success came at a cost because work was our entire life.”

Poehler states that she embarked on the project to offer audiences a deeper insight into who Ball and Arnaz were, other than the two-dimensional characters everyone knows them as. 

But it’s not for nothing that people describe the duo using big words such as ‘icon’ and ‘genius’ because they had one of the most remarkable careers in show business. Think of them as the current Jay Z and Beyoncé. 

Ball began her modelling career before advancing to Hollywood to become a sought-after actress. She then transitioned to radio and TV sitcoms, where she quickly became a star. Arnaz also had an equally strong career, starting as a Latin music marketer in the nightclub business then moving into TV acting. He then co-created and co-produced the 1950s hit I Love Lucy alongside his wife.
