A Daughter’s Comparison of Bipolar Episodes Versus Her Parent’s True, Normal Self
Bipolar disorder is a disease that remains largely misunderstood by society, often simply characterized by sudden emotional fluctuations. However, in reality, it's a serious condition that can virtually alter the course of one's life. Consequently, it's crucial to pay close attention and adapt our behavior towards individuals diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
A woman compared the periods of normalcy with the episodes of manic attacks of her mother who suffers from bipolar disorder. The video turned out to be enlightening, particularly for those grappling with bipolar disorder and their surrounding circle.

So, how should one approach a person with bipolar disorder correctly?

Don't Personalize the Illness: Their anger or indifference towards you doesn't stem from their character, but from their current episode (mania or depression).
Listen, Don't Provide Solutions: Instead of saying 'This too shall pass,' it's much more effective and calming to say, 'I'm here for you, what do you need?'
Set Boundaries: Don't neglect your own mental health while providing support. If there's a hurtful behavior, gently but firmly remind them where they should stop.
Support Medication and Treatment: Encourage them not to disrupt their treatment process without judging; however, act like a 'loved one,' not a 'doctor.'
Create a Crisis Plan: Ask in advance during a calm period, how they would like you to help them when an episode occurs.
