Which Food Poisoned the Family?
The Böcek family, who were staying at a hotel in Fatih, Istanbul, experienced a tragedy when they were rushed to the hospital under suspicion of poisoning. Six-year-old Kadir, three-year-old Masal, and their mother Çiğdem Böcek, who had traveled from Germany to Istanbul for a vacation, lost their lives. Meanwhile, the father, Servet Böcek, is currently undergoing treatment in intensive care. An investigation is ongoing into the suspicion that the family was poisoned after consuming baked potatoes, mussels, a type of Turkish wrap called tantuni, and sausage during the day.

The incident occurred on November 12th. The Böcek family, who had traveled from Germany to Istanbul, fell ill at the hotel they were staying at in Fatih. When the family found their 3-year-old daughter, Masal, unresponsive, they alerted the authorities and multiple medical teams were dispatched to the hotel. Despite all medical interventions, both 3-year-old Masal and her 6-year-old brother, Kadir, could not be saved. Their mother, Çiğdem, and father, Servet, were also receiving treatment, however, Çiğdem tragically lost her life in the early hours of the morning. It has been reported that Servet Böcek's treatment is still ongoing.
Upon investigation, it was discovered that the family had consumed mussels, tantuni (a type of Turkish wrap), sausage, and stuffed baked potato in Ortaköy. An inquiry into the incident has been launched.
The restaurant was sealed off and four individuals were taken into custody.

Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç stated, 'Within the scope of the investigation, necessary samples have been collected from the places where the family is known to have eaten, and four individuals responsible and working at these places have been taken into custody.'

On the 11th of November, at 10.08 AM, a family left their hotel and later at 14.20 PM, purchased mussels from a street vendor in Ortaköy. Subsequently, it was revealed that the mother and daughter had soup, while the family indulged in local delicacies like sucuk, kokoreç, and tantuni. At 18.30 PM, the family bought Turkish delight from a shop in Fatih. The family's return to the hotel at 18.43 PM was captured on camera. The preliminary autopsy report of the family has been completed.
The report stated that for Kadir Muhammet Böcek and Masal Böcek, no external traumatic lesions that could cause death were observed during their external examination. Apart from hyperemia (a condition where blood flow to a region increases due to dilated vessels) in the stomach mucosa, no significant pathological findings were encountered.
As for Çiğdem Böcek, the mother, the report again noted no external traumatic lesions. However, widespread submucosal bleeding was observed in the stomach, along with sporadic ulcerated areas. Apart from the usual chyme and fecal content in the intestines, no significant pathological findings were noted. During the procedure, it was learned that some samples were taken from the bodies for laboratory analysis.
