Turkish Entrepreneur's Company Market Value to an Impressive $5.8 Billion
BillionToOne, a biotech firm established by Turkish entrepreneur Oğuzhan Atay in 2016, made its public debut on Nasdaq just the other day. Founded with the aim of developing genetic tests conducted via blood samples for common diseases such as sickle cell anemia and cystic fibrosis, the company has been a source of joy for its investors from day one. By the close of its first day of trading, the share price of the company, which started at $60, soared to $109, pushing the company's market value up to a staggering $5.8 billion.

BillionToOne was established with the aim of developing genetic tests through blood samples. Initially, the company was involved in prenatal blood tests, but later shifted its focus to tests used for diseases like cancer. The company experienced rapid financial growth, with its annual revenue skyrocketing from $8 million in 2021 to over $153 million by 2024. Despite reporting a loss, BillionToOne managed to rake in $209 million from 508,000 genetic tests in the last 12 months, and was successful in reducing its deficit to as low as $4 million.
Atay co-founded the company with his partner David Tsao back in 2016.

Oguzhan Atay, while acknowledging the significance of prenatal tests, also points to the potential in cancer screenings. With agreements in place with insurance companies, he anticipates that BillionToOne's new products could tap into a market potential of up to 100 billion dollars.
Who is Oğuzhan Atay, the successful entrepreneur?

Born and raised in Turkey, Oguzhan Atay relocated to the United States for his university education. He completed his undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology from Princeton University with high distinction, while also pursuing minors in diverse fields such as Physics, Computer Science, and Applied Mathematics.
Following his PhD in Biology at Stanford University, he delved into the analysis of cellular signaling principles. In 2016, Atay co-founded the company BillionToOne, alongside David Tsao and Sukrit Silas. However, Silas, one of the initial partners, later shifted his focus towards academia.
Atay has gained international recognition as an entrepreneur, even gracing the cover of the globally renowned finance magazine, Forbes.
