"Turkey, What Is This?": Model Anna Malygon Confused by Traditional Cupped Water on Flight
Habits that seem very ordinary in daily life in different countries can become a subject of surprise and curiosity for a foreigner. In particular, our food and drink culture harbors unique details in practical solutions and packaging techniques that are rarely encountered worldwide. Did you know that plastic cup waters, which are quite ordinary for us, are actually not known in many parts of the world?
Famous model Anna Malygon was taken aback when she was served a disposable plastic cup of water during a flight journey. Having seen such packaging for the first time in her life, the model couldn't hide her astonishment and shared these moments with her followers with a note saying 'What is this, Turkey?' She received similar comments from many of her foreign followers.

Do these water glasses exist only in Turkey?
Many major airlines worldwide, such as Singapore Airlines, SriLankan Airlines, and Emirates, use small foil-cupped water servings, particularly in economy class meal trays, to save space, reduce weight, and enhance practicality. However, in foreign countries, these products are typically used only in in-flight catering, hospitals, military rations, or large mass events; they are not sold in supermarkets or street kiosks.
In contrast, these plastic cup waters, which we encounter at every moment of our lives, from local grocery stores to wedding halls, from bus journeys to airplane catering, are actually a product of logistical genius unique to Turkey. Since water is served in either plastic or glass bottles in foreign countries, these small plastic cups covered with foil initially resemble more a yogurt, jelly, or sauce container rather than a water package when viewed from the outside. Consequently, it's completely natural for a foreigner encountering this for the first time to hesitate while opening or consuming it. The truth is, the widespread use of these cup waters is entirely due to practicality, hygiene, and cost balance. Especially in mass transportation, flights, or crowded events, they take up much less space for both transportation and storage compared to plastic bottles. Moreover, thanks to their single-use structure, they remain completely sterile as long as they are not opened.
