Tragic Passenger Bus Accident in Yozgat, Turkey: 12 Dead, 19 Injured
In a heart-wrenching incident that unfolded in Yozgat's Sorgun district, a passenger bus careened off the road, plunging down a 30-meter embankment after losing control and crossing into oncoming traffic. The devastating accident claimed the lives of 12 individuals, while 19 others suffered injuries. Yozgat Governor Mehmet Ali Özkan revealed that initial assessments suggest the accident was caused by negligence or a momentary lapse of attention, although further investigations are underway to establish the exact cause.
The ill-fated journey occurred on the Sivas-Yozgat highway, near the vicinity of the Mükremin Intersection. The bus, bearing the license plate 58 ADA 924 and owned by Kamil Koç Tourism, was en route from Sivas to Istanbul when it tragically skidded out of control. The harrowing scene unfolded as the bus crossed the median and plummeted down the steep embankment.
Upon receiving the alarming distress call, swift action was taken, as health personnel, law enforcement, gendarmerie, and emergency response teams raced to the site to provide immediate assistance. Despite their valiant efforts, 11 passengers succumbed to their injuries at the scene. One of the injured passengers, who had been transported to the hospital for medical attention, also tragically lost their battle for life.
Among the 19 individuals who sustained injuries, one is in critical condition and has been admitted to Yozgat and Sorgun district hospitals for intensive care. The tragic incident cast a somber mood over the community, prompting swift reactions from local authorities, government officials, and public figures.
Yozgat Governor Mehmet Ali Özkan expressed his deep sorrow, affirming that both local and national authorities are engaged in a comprehensive investigation to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the accident. He emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic rules and maintaining alertness while driving to prevent such tragic occurrences. Özkan assured that his office, along with various law enforcement agencies and medical personnel, is dedicated to offering all necessary support to the affected families.
Health Minister Fahrettin Koca also offered condolences and assured that the injured victims are receiving top-quality medical care, while a comprehensive ad hoc inquiry is underway to uncover the exact sequence of events that led to this devastating accident.
