According to a report by Euronews, high levels of toxic chemicals have been found in women's underwear from well-known brands.
Research conducted in Hungary, Austria, Slovenia, and the Czech Republic revealed that women's underwear contained high levels of endocrine disruptors, which are chemicals that affect hormones.
Examinations found a substance called 'bisphenol' in the underwear, a material that is extremely harmful to human health and is typically used in the production of plastics.
Bisphenol is classified as a dangerous chemical in the EU. It is primarily used in food packaging and storage containers, and contact with human skin can lead to serious health issues.
It was discovered that bisphenol was present in 30% of 166 types of women's underwear, and in 10% of these, the chemical levels exceeded what is considered "safe" for human health.
Moreover, it was found that products from well-known brands contained more harmful substances than those from cheaper brands. The Conscious Consumers Association in Hungary stated that cotton products are safer, but most women's underwear is made from synthetic materials.
Bisphenol can affect fertility in women, cause allergic reactions, irritate the lungs, and disrupt the hormonal system.
It is recommended that women choose underwear with a higher cotton content for better safety.
