South African Freedom Fighters Film 'Silverton Siege' Premieres Netflix This April 2022

The action thriller 'Silverton Siege' is based on genuine events that occurred in South Africa in 1980.

After a failed sabotage mission that turns into a bank hostage standoff, a trio of freedom fighters collide with the authorities. This film is based on a true story that ignited the worldwide 'Free Mandela' movement.

‘Silverton Siege’ Release Date

Netflix will begin streaming Dube's 'Silverton Siege' on April 27th, 2022, worldwide.

‘Silverton Siege’ Trailer

The new footage begins with glimpses of police cars driving down the road, an officer shooting out a car tire, and our freedom fighters fleeing from something, as the trailer implies.

All of this is intercut with the voice-over of Calvin, a liberation fighter played by Thabo Rametsi. Calvin tells the audience about how he witnessed his parents being killed by cops when he was a small child, and how his aim is to avenge them.

‘Silverton Siege’ Storyline

The group find themselves seeking refuge in a South African bank in Silverton, Pretoria, after a high-speed automobile chase with the police following a foiled sabotage mission. The stakes and emotions are high when the bank and its customers are held hostage and Nelson Mandela's freedom is demanded in exchange for the release of the convicts.

The film stars Thabo Rametsi as Calvin Khumalo, with Arnold Vosloo, Noxolo Dlamini, Stefan Erasmus, Michelle Mosalakae, Elani Dekker, Shane Wellington, and Tumisho Masha.

‘Silverton Siege’ Production

'Silverton Siege' is directed by Mandlakayise Walter Dube (aka 'Mandla Dube'), a cinematographer and director who previously worked on the film Kalushi: The Story of Solomon Mahlangu. Sabelo Mgidi wrote the screenplay for the film. Pambili Media was in charge of the production.
