Producer Yeule’s Brand of Hyperpop Is A Treat For Genre Fans

Yeule is the alias of Singaporean musician Nat Ćmiel, whose particular sort of pop music hardly veers into the mainstream. Ćmiel’s future-pop on Glitch Princess, which features production from Danny L Harle and Mura Masa as well, does not reinvent the genre but sticks firmly in the glitch-pop comfort zone with some seriously great highlights and a handful of worthy experiments.

Yeule's most popular track from Glitch Princess, 'Don't Be So Hard on Your Own Beauty,' is the best example of this artist's more conventional approach. Luckily, there's the complete inverse on the digital album, 'The Things They Did For Me Out of Love.' This track is a maximally stretched-out ambient track, reaching 4 hours and 44 minutes. These alternating tendencies are exactly the sort of thing hyperpop fans look for in the music they seek out. For a more condensed version of this, 'Too Dead Inside' is also ambient but in a subtly beat-driven pop format clocking in at just over 3 minutes.

Alternating between ambient pleasantry and harsher stabs of sonic mayhem, Glitch Princess is a great way for Yeule to break into a larger audience of hyperpop listeners. With some more challenging tracks and mostly hypnotic pop ventures, Yeule sits in the area not quite gripping enough to be in the same league as her more popular predecessor Charli XCX or the more gnarly electronic noise artists. Still, the highlights of Glitch Princess show an artist to look out for who has officially caught the world’s attention.
