Parents Shunned for Having an Albino Child: A Heartbreaking Story of Discrimination
Imagine welcoming twin babies into the world, only to face relentless hate and discrimination. That’s exactly what happened to Sherria and her family when one of their twins was born with albinism. Strangers refused to believe the children were biologically related, subjected the family to cruel insults, and even spat on them. This heartbreaking story sheds light on the shocking prejudice against albinism and the emotional toll it has taken on one family. Here’s what happened.
Let us introduce you to Sherria and her family.

A mother of four, Sherria is happy with her family, yet two of her children have albinism.
Unfortunately, people are not very accepting of this.

When they see her children with albinism on the street, some even spit at them or say, 'These children are not yours.' One of her daughters has an identical twin brother who does not have this genetic condition. Speaking on a program they attended, Sherria said, 'My daughter Sheterria has albinism, but my son Te'riq does not.'
At first, the birth of twin siblings with such a difference was a huge shock for the family.

On the program, the twins shared that they encounter all sorts of reactions from strangers in public. 'Sometimes people don’t believe that we’re twins. They always come up to us saying, ‘Oh my God, you guys are so cute. I love your outfits.’ And when we tell them, ‘We’re twins,’ they say, ‘No way,’' Te'riq explained. His sister added that their differences go beyond just appearance—there are also some lifestyle differences between them.
Their mother, Sherria, mentioned that Sheterria has gone through a lot because of albinism.

'She was bullied, people called her names, and I think someone even spat on her once. It was really hard for her,' she said. However, despite the harsh treatment from strangers, Sheterria expressed that she always felt loved at home.
While the family emphasized that the siblings have accepted their appearances, they are also concerned that the outside world could be dangerous for them.

'When I look in the mirror, I see someone who has come a long way,' Sheterria shared.
"My eyebrows are blonde, my eyelashes are blonde, everything about me is blonde."

'I used to hate it, but now I look in the mirror and say, ‘Yes, you are adorable.’' The family now hopes that society will become a little more understanding.
