Mother Shocked Viewers After Revealing Her Pumped Breast Milk Turned Green
Breast milk can vary in color for all sorts of reasons, from what a mother has eaten that day to the time of day she pumps. Most of us picture it as white, creamy, or slightly yellow, but mothers who pump may occasionally find some surprising shades in their bottles. While most color changes are harmless, knowing when to be concerned is just as important.
A content creator named “slaurenlove2” shared a photo of her milk, which had turned completely green. Some people couldn’t believe it was real, while others warned her that something might be wrong.

So, why can breast milk turn green?
Breast milk doesn’t always look the same. During the first few days after birth, colostrum is usually yellowish or orange. As the milk matures, it typically turns white or slightly bluish. Its appearance can even change during a single feeding: the foremilk that comes first is thinner and lighter in color, while the hindmilk that follows is richer in fat and creamier.
A mother’s diet is one of the most common reasons breast milk may appear green. Dark leafy greens such as spinach and Swiss chard, green smoothies, spirulina or seaweed supplements, and foods or drinks containing green food coloring can temporarily tint the milk. Once the mother stops consuming the food or drink responsible, the color usually returns to normal within a short time.
If the green color persists, is accompanied by an unpleasant smell, or occurs alongside symptoms such as breast pain, redness, swelling, or fever, consult a doctor or lactation consultant. It’s also best to ask a healthcare professional about any pink, red, or black discoloration.
