Is 'Men' Worth Watching? Get Ready To Rent It On July 19th
It's looking like you can rent Men around July 19th, following the typical mode of about two months after the theatrical release. The provocative marketing of this film definitely got lots of people in the theater, regardless of its critical and audience divisiveness. So now the question remains: is this film really worth watching? Let's find out!
Premise of 'Men'
Men follows a woman on an English countryside holiday, which she takes to clear her head after her husband's death. While at the remote cottage, she is both subtly and overtly harassed by all of the men that she comes across... all of which are performed by the same actor.
Cast
Jessie Buckley - Harper
Rory Kinnear - The 'Men'
Paapa Essiedu - James, Harper's husband
Gayle Rankin - Harper's friend, Riley
Should I Watch 'Men?'
The most interested potential audience members will be fans of A24 horror movies, but be forewarned: this ranks relatively low compared to the high bar set by the distributor's enviable horror output. The problem with Men for most people has been the lack of depth and subtlety to its premise, which joins the collective of genre-defining, thoughtful horror films and follows the writer/director Alex Garland's A24 debut, Ex Machina, as well as his big-budget previous film, Annihilation. If thoughtfulness is not a major concern, then Men is full of creepy images, disturbing sequences, and a memorably disgusting ending that must be seen to be believed.
