Cinemas in Türkiye closed October with 1,675,955 admissions and 489.97 million Turkish lira in revenue, according to Box Office Türkiye. Admissions were up 17.1% on the same month last year, and the film behind that rise is Gupi ve Gülmeyen Kral, the Turkish animated feature written by Gupse Özay, who also voices its lead character. In only nine days on release, it drew one in every five people who went to the cinema in October.

Gupi ve Gülmeyen Kral became October's most-watched film, reaching 343,916 viewers in just nine days.

The film opened on October 23 with 136,548 viewers over its first weekend, the best opening for a Turkish film in 2026. By the end of the month it had reached 343,916 viewers and 96.6 million lira at the box office.

Even with only the last nine days of the month on its side, it finished nearly three times ahead of second-placed Vahşinin Kalbi.

A Comparison With Last October

The leader of October 2025, One Battle After Another, drew 154,644 viewers across the whole month. Gupi ve Gülmeyen Kral more than doubled that in nine days. Second and third place last October went to Mustafa Kemal with 152,118 and Uykucu with 145,421.

Admissions rose 17%, but ticket prices were the main source of the 65.8% jump in revenue.

Cinemas sold 1,675,955 tickets in October, up from 1,430,726 a year earlier. Revenue climbed from 295.4 million lira to 489.97 million lira. The average ticket price rose from 206.50 lira to 292.35 lira, an increase of about 42% in a year. The number of films in cinemas fell from 156 to 141.

What If Gupi Had Not Been There?

Foreign films drew 934,276 viewers, up 18.5%, while Turkish films drew 741,679, up 15.4%, for a 44.3% share of the total. Nearly half of the Turkish figure belongs to Gupi ve Gülmeyen Kral alone.

Take the film out and October's total falls to around 1.332 million, about 7% below last year. The drop for Turkish films is much sharper: without it, they sit about 38% below last October.
