Germany Will Pay the Salaries of U.S. Soldiers
The German Ministry of Finance has announced that it will cover the salaries of American soldiers stationed in the country, due to the uncertainty surrounding their pay this month as a result of the 'government shutdown' in the U.S. It was noted that there are a total of 11,000 military and civilian personnel at U.S. military bases in Germany.
Following budget negotiations between Republicans and Democrats in the US, the government had gone into a shutdown.
According to a report by Ramazan Erkin Öncan from NTV, the German government has guaranteed the payment of salaries for US soldiers stationed in the country. It was announced that Germany will cover the October salaries of approximately 11,000 local employees working at US military bases.
A spokesperson for the German Ministry of Finance stated that it is not yet clear whether the payments will come from the US, but the German government will ensure that the salaries are paid on time.
Germany's move was characterized as a 'show of solidarity with the US forces and civilian employees in the country.'
