Fitting In: NY Subway's Pet Bag Rule Turns Into a Hilariously Creative Challenge
Public transportation systems around the world have their own unique sets of rules. These rules, of course, are shaped according to the needs and lifestyle of the community they serve. While some rules are essential, others can cause considerable confusion, such as the New York Subway's rule that 'Dogs must be carried in a bag when riding the subway.'
This vast underground world, used by millions of people every day to commute to work, school, or just to explore the city, transforms into a vibrant scene thanks to the ingenuity of pet owners. People who don't want to part with their adorable companions while complying with the rules turn everything from ordinary backpacks to shopping bags into carriers. This results in a variety of intriguing sights.

Do similar rules exist in different parts of the world?
1. London
In London's underground system, dogs are allowed to travel, but pet owners are required to carry their dogs when using the escalators. This rule is designed to prevent our furry friends' paws from getting caught in the escalator mechanism and getting injured. If you have a giant dog that you can't lift, you'll have to change your route to use the elevators or regular stairs.
2. Ukraine
In intercity bus transportation in Ukraine, carrying a pet requires a full-on logistical engineering feat, according to recently updated rules. If your dog weighs between 10 and 20 kg, it's not enough to just muzzle it. To travel, you have to buy all four seats in the back row of the bus. If your dog weighs between 20 and 45 kg, in addition to the four seats in the back row, you also have to buy the seats to the right and left in front of them, creating a 'safe zone' for the dog inside the bus.
3. San Francisco
In San Francisco's metro system, all pets, with the exception of guide dogs, can only travel in a bag or cage. But the rules don't stop there. Pets are completely banned from using the metro during peak hours like commuting times. During off-peak, quieter hours, only one pet is allowed per carriage. Additionally, you have to buy a ticket for your dog and the animal absolutely cannot be seated. It must either be in your lap or under the seat.
4. Switzerland: Mandatory 'Socialization' for Dogs
Switzerland is one of the strictest countries in the world when it comes to animal rights. According to the laws in the country, social animals can never live alone. If you have a dog, it's a legal requirement to ensure it regularly interacts with other dogs. There are even special services available that allow you to 'rent' a companion for your guinea pig if one dies, to prevent the remaining animal from being alone.
5. Australia
In Australia, the rules for pets using public transportation vary from state to state and are a major topic of debate among the public. For instance, in Sydney's metro, carrying pets other than guide dogs is completely prohibited. In Melbourne, large dogs are allowed on trains, but the dog must be leashed, must definitely be muzzled, and must not create a crowd.
