Resident Alien, the newest showcase for actor Alan Tudyk’s peculiar brand of humor, released its mid-season finale episode for Season 2 on March 16th, 2022. Though its viewing numbers seem to match the first season, the show’s network, SyFy, has yet to comment on whether they will approve Season 3 for production. Low critical attention seems to point towards a strong chance of cancellation, but there is so far no guarantee either way.
Plot of ‘Resident Alien’
When an alien ship crashes in the mountains of Colorado, it kills and takes the form of a doctor staying in a remote cabin nearby. While in this human form, the alien must learn to blend in (with nothing but Law & Order as its guide) so that he can complete his mission: to eliminate the entire human race.
Chris Sheridan, Creator of ‘Resident Alien’
Resident Alien is the first and only show created by writer Chris Sheridan. Known for his time as one of the earliest writers on Family Guy, his critical success with this new show indicates a bright future for Sheridan after 25 years of doing not much more than writing for Seth MacFarlane’s infamous animated show.
Praise for Season 2 (First Half)
Resident Alien is receiving two separate cycles for its second season, the first starting in early 2022 and the second half premiering in mid-2022. The setup for the new episodes is very enticing, giving the potential for exciting new storylines for Harry (Alan Tudyk), Asta (Sara Tomko), and a mysterious new character introduced in the last few episodes.
Though it’s too early for the awards rollouts for TV episodes from 2022, the first season received a handful of recognitions, including a Hollywood Critics Association TV Award for Best Comedy Cable Series. The performances of Tudyk and supporting actors Corey Reynolds and Alice Wetterlund also garnered praise.
