Drivers Face Fines and Point Deductions Under Spain's New Red Line Rules
The General Directorate of Traffic in Spain (DGT) has ushered in a new era on the roads with the aim of minimizing traffic accidents and maximizing road safety. In addition to traditional white lines, a 'continuous red line' system has been implemented at critical and dangerous road sections.
This pilot project, which was initiated through the analysis of accident statistics on traditional and secondary roads where serious accidents frequently occur, along with the examination of driver behaviors, is currently being implemented in various regions of Spain.
This area, designed to alert drivers with its striking color, strictly prohibits overtaking.
The Royal Automobile Club of Spain (RACE) issued a reminder that regardless of whether the line is white or red, severe penalties are imposed for violations of continuous lines.
Under the General Traffic Regulation, drivers who violate the red line are subject to the following penalties:
An administrative fine of up to 400 Euros.
A deduction of 4 points from the driver's license.
The red line application forms a significant part of a comprehensive road safety plan, which includes the installation of new section radars, an increase in driver awareness campaigns, and intensified inspections on secondary roads.
