‘Dear John’: Release Date, Trailer, Storyline, and More

'Dear John,' directed by Lasse Hallström, is a 2010 American romantic war drama film based on Nicholas Sparks' 2006 novel of the same name. It follows a soldier's (Channing Tatum) life when he falls in love with a young woman (Amanda Seyfried). After he is gone to the war, they decide to write each other letters. Screen Gems distributed the picture in North America on February 5, 2010, and it received mixed to unfavorable reviews.

‘Dear John’ Storyline

John, a US Army Special Operations soldier from South Carolina, comes on leave from his German base to visit his widowed father. He befriends college girl Savannah and her friends, a terminal father and his immaculate son, while gallantly standing on the pier. Savannah falls in love with John, and Savannah diagnoses his sweet but odd father as mildly autistic. He had no intention of re-enlisting, but 9/11 has changed his mind, and she will not stand by when their friends critically need assistance.

‘Dear John’ cast includes Channing Tatum as John Tyree, Amanda Seyfried as Savannah Lynn Curtis, Henry Thomas as Tim Wheddon, Richard Jenkins as Mr. Tyree, Luke Benward as Alan Wheddon, Braeden Reed as Young Alan Wheddon, Scott Porter as Randy, D.J. Cotrona as Noodles, Cullen Moss as Rooster, and Gavin McCulley as Starks.

‘Dear John’ Box Office

Dear John has grossed $114,977,104 globally, with $80,014,842 in North America and $34,962,262 in other markets.

The film earned $30,468,614 in its first weekend at the box office, beating out Avatar after seven weekends in first place and becoming the biggest launch for a film based on a Nicholas Sparks novel.

The film had the second-highest opening weekend for a film since Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert in 2008.
