According to a study conducted by DatingNews.com and the Kinsey Institute, 43% of young people are going on fewer dates, 37% are generally cutting back on flirting, and 33% are directly blaming the economy for this situation.
Particularly, Generation Z is still in the process of learning how to manage their finances properly, and many are grappling with significant debts. Consequently, going out for social gatherings can actually turn out to be quite costly.
Not only singles, but also those in relationships are feeling the pinch of economic pressure.
According to research, one in four people claims they would move in with their partner at a faster pace than usual. The reason, however, is not romance, but purely economical. Sharing the cost of rent, bills, and groceries can provide significant financial relief in big cities.
Yet, experts warn of the potential pitfalls of this situation. According to sex therapist Natassia Miller, 'Living together solely for economic reasons can lead couples to overlook their true compatibility. This results in relationships that are upheld by bills rather than emotional bonds. Ultimately, it becomes much harder to leave unhappy or unhealthy relationships.'
None of this is really surprising. Almost half of those born between 1997 and 2012 claim they would choose money over love.
