An investigation into the cause of the crash has been launched. It was revealed that the aircraft involved in the accident was a Boeing 737-800, part of Jeju Air’s fleet. Boeing has been linked to several accidents in the past, with the 737-800 model being frequently implicated.

The U.S. Department of Justice announced that Boeing could face legal action following two separate accidents. In March 2019, a Boeing 737 MAX 8 operated by Ethiopian Airlines crashed, killing all 157 people on board. Another MAX 8, operated by Lion Air, crashed into Indonesia’s Java Sea, resulting in 189 fatalities. Both crashes occurred shortly after takeoff.
