The Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis, are a spectacle created by the interaction of charged particles from the Sun with the Earth's magnetic field. During solar storms, these particles are scattered into space and directed towards the poles by our planet's magnetic field upon reaching us. As they enter the atmosphere, they collide with oxygen and nitrogen atoms. These collisions stimulate the atoms, and when these atoms revert to their original state, they emit light. Consequently, lights in shades of green, red, and purple can be observed in the sky.
