Finally, the long-awaited film As They Made Us, starring Glee and The Big Bang Theory alums dropped on Friday 8 April in theatres.

Only three days since its debut, the film already has an impressive 100% score on the Rotten Tomatoes scale, with an audience score of 93%. This is a great accomplishment for The Big Bang Theory’s Amy Mayim Bialik, the film's writer and director, given it is her debut project.

Starring Hollywood big names such as Dustin Hoffman, Simon Helberg, Candice Bergen and Dianna Agron, the movie’s plot follows Abigail and the few precious moments she and her family have with her dying father.

As They Made Us is a heartfelt drama film that focuses on the hardships and defining moments of family. It starts with flashbacks of Abigail's life while growing up. Presently, Abigail is a divorced mother of two. Her parents, Barbara and Eugene, need a caregiver because Eugene lost his ability to walk. A doctor says that Eugene only has six months to live. A devastated Abigail visits his estranged brother Nathan to break the news to him. Nathan talks with his father but refuses to see his mother. 

Abigail starts to fall in love with a landscaper, Jay. Days before passing away, Eugene declares his love for Barbara. Though Abigail and her mother attend Eugene’s funeral, Nathan is notably absent, claiming he is emotionally unable to. Abigail blames Nathan for not being there during such a difficult time. Six months later the two siblings reconnect when Nathan invites Abigail to a party.

Dianna Agron takes the leading role of Abigail, Simon Helberg plays her brother Nathan. Candice Bergen and Dustin Hoffman play the parents, Barbara and Eugene. Justin Chu plays Abigail's love interest, Jay, while Charlie Weber plays her ex-husband Peter. Finally, Mayim Bialik plays Dr Hannah Wiess.  

You can watch As They Made Us in a cinema near you as the film is yet to be released on any streaming platform.
