Are the Rumors About a ‘High School Musical 4: The Reunion Movie’ True?

Diehard fans of the musical teen drama film franchise High School Musical are all ears for any developments concerning a reunion movie since word has been spreading for a larger part of the year.

Well, let’s put your minds at ease. Yes, a High School Musical Reunion is set to be on the cards, but it won’t be as direct as you’d expect.

The reunion frenzy started when Vanessa Hudgens, who played Gabriella Montez on High School Musical, shared a TikTok video from outside the real Salt Lake East High, where she recorded the sound to the ‘Breaking Free’ soundtrack at the end of the first film. 

A few weeks later, fans went bananas when Zac Efron, who starred as Troy Bolton, Gabriella's boyfriend, posted a photo with him standing at the very same spot that his co-star did. 

Neither of the stars explained why they went back to Salt Lake East High, leaving the audience scratching their heads as to whether they were hinting at a reunion movie.

Rumor has it that the long-awaited High School Musical 4: The Reunion Movie could be in the works but will be featured within the upcoming fourth season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.

Apparently, when the students of East High School return for their first day back, the principal announces that Disney will be shooting the High School Musical: The Reunion Movie in their school and that the Wildcats will appear as guest stars.

Disney and its streaming platform have kept things pretty mum about what to expect from High School Musical 4: The Reunion Movie or the fourth season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. 

To date, only three High School Musical alums have guest featured in the Disney+ show. They include Corbin Bleu, who portrayed Troy’s best friend Chad Danforth, Lucas Grabeel, who portrayed dance choreographer Ryan Evans and Kaycee Stroh, who played dance enthusiast Martha Cox.

Zac Efron said in May that he'd be on board if a reunion movie came about. 'My heart is still there… I hope it happens,' he claimed in an interview with E! News.

Disney+ has yet to announce the official cast of the show’s fourth season. However, the stars Dara Reneé, Joshua Bassett, Matt Cornett and Sofia Wylie confirmed at Disney’s D23 Expo that they’d reprise their roles.

The premiere date for season 4 of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is also yet to be confirmed. The streamer, however, promised that it'd be 'bigger and better', as per their Twitter post.
