Walter Keane (Christoph Waltz), an artist who painted pictures of saucer-eyed waifs in the late 1950s and early 1960s, acquired incredible popularity and fortune. No one recognizes, however, that his wife Margaret (Amy Adams) is the true painter. Margaret is appalled to hear that Walter is stealing her work and passing it off as his own, but she is too quiet to speak up. The truth only comes to light when the Keanes' marriage ends and a lawsuit ensues.
