Wealthy Expats Fleeing Dubai Leave Hundreds of Pets Abandoned on the Streets
Due to the escalating tension and missile attacks in the Middle East, some foreigners wishing to leave the region have been compelled to abandon their pets in Dubai. Animal protection organizations and veterinarians are reporting a significant increase in the number of abandoned animals in recent days.
We've been receiving a surge of abandonment reports in recent days.

K9 Friends Dubai, a non-profit organization based in Dubai, has recently voiced its concerns to the Western media. They revealed that the increasing number of requests from expatriates wanting to leave their pets, primarily dogs, at their center before leaving the country has put them in a challenging position. The organization also mentioned receiving numerous reports concerning abandoned puppies.
Claire Hopkins, a volunteer at various animal organizations in Dubai, further emphasized the issue. She stated that the shelters are operating at full capacity and are under significant financial pressure.
There are also numerous challenges for those who wish to bring something along with them.

Hopkins expressed, 'Some owners are in a state of panic. This is a place where people from 200 different nations reside. Some wish to return the pets they've adopted, while some dogs have already begun to be abandoned.'
He pointed out that currently, airlines are either not accepting animals or providing very limited service. Those who wish to get their pets vaccinated for rabies are forced to postpone their travels for at least three weeks. He highlighted that requests for euthanasia have been made to some veterinarians, most of whom are directing the animals to shelters, but emphasized that these shelters are already full.
"Two dogs have been shot in the desert."

Anso Stander, a South African who runs the Six Hounds shelter in the city of Al Ain, United Arab Emirates, has reported to the press that they have been receiving an overwhelming number of messages concerning abandoned animals.
'In just one day, I received 27 messages,' Stander disclosed. 'People are saying that they are leaving the country and if we don't take their animals, they will abandon them. There are individuals trying to leave the country who own as many as 20 cats.'
Stander also revealed that two dogs had been shot in the desert between the UAE and Oman. Emphasizing that animals silently suffer during times of crisis, Stander issued a plea for urgent support for shelter space, staff, food, and veterinary expenses. 'This is selfish and heartless. There is absolutely no reason to panic. I can assure you that the government is keeping the situation under control,' she stated.
