The General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policies (TAGEM) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, is aiming to lead the way in biological control methods that will minimize the use of chemical pesticides in agricultural production. Mustafa Altuğ Atalay, the Director General of TAGEM, made significant statements at the 24th Board of Directors Meeting of the International Agricultural Research Consultation Group (CGIAR) held in Antalya, sharing the progress Turkey has made in the technology of producing 'beneficial insects' to combat harmful ones. Atalay noted that these environmentally friendly methods have attracted considerable attention from neighboring and friendly countries, stating, 'Many friendly nations are lining up for these insects.'

Atalay stated that the network of biological control has spread throughout Turkey. He pointed out that they combat pests native to the Mediterranean region at their centers in Adana, Mersin, and Antalya, while in Izmir they focus on the Aegean region. In Samsun, Giresun, and Tokat, their production is primarily aimed at the brown marmorated stink bug, which causes significant damage in the Black Sea Region.

Atalay highlighted that the brown marmorated stink bug inflicts considerably more damage in neighboring countries compared to Turkey. He mentioned that Turkish experts travel to these countries to instruct on production processes under laboratory conditions. Atalay particularly emphasized the production experience of the 'samurai wasp', the most formidable natural enemy of the brown marmorated stink bug and a species that only harms this type of pest. He shared that they have been disseminating this knowledge to friendly regions. 'We don't export insects, but we are all together in the fight against pests. The entire agricultural and environmental community is united,' Atalay said.
