Think It’s Disposable? A Dentist Shares the Intense Cleaning and Sterilization Process for Common Tools
Dental clinics are places where hygiene and sterilization must be held to the highest standard. This is due to the fact that the mouth and teeth are among the most sensitive areas, and when it comes to the health and safety of patients, there can be no compromise in this area. Indeed, dentists already trigger phobias for many people, and any doubts regarding cleanliness only serve to further deter patients from seeking treatment.
A dentist recently shed light on the sterilization process of the tools they use. The fact that items many people assume to be disposable are actually being cleaned in this way has muddled some minds on the subject of hygiene.
You can watch it from here;
Many people didn't find the cleanliness in the video sufficient, but in reality, this is precisely how it should be. So, what steps are being followed?

1. Preliminary Cleaning and Disinfection
In the initial stage, tools are washed with the aid of special disinfectant solutions and brushes to remove gross dirt (blood, saliva, etc.). This step is crucial to ensure the effectiveness of the subsequent stages.
2. Packaging (Sealing)
The cleaned and dried tools are placed into special paper/plastic bags known as sterilization rolls. The device seen in the video seals the mouth of these bags using heat, thus preventing the tools from coming into contact with the external environment. As a result, the tools can remain sterile until they are used.
3. Autoclave (High-Pressure Steam Sterilization)
The final and most critical stage involves placing the packaged tools into an autoclave device. Autoclaves;
Utilize saturated steam under high temperature (usually 121°C or 134°C) and high pressure to completely eliminate all bacteria, viruses, and spores. The device with the digital display showing temperature and pressure values in the video is precisely this.
