The China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) has achieved a historic milestone in a massive industrial park project in Qingdao city, Shandong province, that aims to bring together the maritime and energy sectors. In the offshore project, teams successfully placed the first colossal 3,500-ton cassette (concrete block) foundation designed for the southern breakwater on the seabed.

When these blocks, each of which is approximately the size of a 5-story building and weighs 3,500 tons, are combined, it will be as if a colossal concrete wall weighing a total of 119,000 tons has been constructed under the sea.

Due to the constantly changing wind, waves, and currents, the construction team was compelled to operate within a very limited time frame.

The use of GPS technology ensured that the cassettes were positioned accurately, down to the centimeter.

To avoid any unexpected risks, tidal models were analyzed and flotation stability calculations were performed.

All ballast preparations, equipment checks, and emergency drills were completed without a hitch prior to the operation.

Once this colossal project, which pushes the boundaries of engineering, is completed, it will form the dock infrastructure of an integrated energy hub that combines offshore wind, solar, and hydrogen energy in a single center. The project also aims to significantly contribute to the overall infrastructure and logistic capacity of the region.
