The reign of English in pop music is coming to an end.

Global music giant Spotify has announced an increasing influence of languages other than English on worldwide music charts. According to Spotify's data, last year, songs in 16 different languages, including Spanish, Korean, Portuguese, Turkish, Indonesian, and Arabic, featured on the platform's Global Top 50 list. It was noted that this number has more than doubled compared to 2020.
One of those breaking the dominance of English is Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny, known for his Spanish songs. Highly appreciated for his stage performances and reaching millions of listeners, Bad Bunny was the most listened to artist worldwide last year.
Spanish star Rosalia also drew attention as the first person to win the 'Best International Artist' award at the Brit Awards with an album predominantly in a non-English language.
Turkish, Spanish, Korean, Portuguese, Indonesian, and Arabic are on the rise.

According to Spotify data, some of the fastest-growing music genres worldwide include:
Brazilian Funk: with a 36% increase
KPop: with a 31% increase
Latin Trap: with a 29% increase
Kpop, which has been on the rise in recent years, continues to boost its popularity with names like Stray Kids, Enhypen, and Seventeen gracing global sales charts. Duets between Korean artists and European and American stars are setting records worldwide.
While English still holds the lead, music lovers are painting a more 'global' portrait over the years.
