Paul Anderson rose to international fame for his portrayal of Arthur Shelby in *Peaky Blinders*.
Born in Kennington, London, in 1978, Paul Anderson became a household name almost overnight when Peaky Blinders premiered in 2013. For six seasons, he played Arthur, the Shelby family’s eldest son, whose temper was always on the verge of getting the better of him. Alongside Cillian Murphy’s Tommy, Anderson became one of the show’s most unforgettable faces.
His career extends well beyond a single role. He has also appeared in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, The Revenant, Legend and Robin Hood. When the series wrapped up in 2022, fans were eager to see Arthur return on the big screen.
Paul Anderson was spotted on the streets of London, and his latest appearance has put him back in the headlines—with the cash in his hand drawing attention.
As anticipation builds for the next chapter in the Peaky Blinders universe, footage allegedly showing Paul Anderson living on the streets and counting cash has thrust him into the spotlight. In images published by the Daily Mail, Anderson rides his electric bike around town, running errands before pulling a thick wad of cash from his pocket and counting it out in the middle of the street.
After the footage went viral, social media users claimed the actor was living on the streets of London. There has been no official confirmation of that claim. His talent agency, meanwhile, said he was still working, with roles in The Prince, due out in 2027, and Fortitude, which also stars Nicolas Cage and Ben Kingsley.
So why has the footage drawn so much attention? In recent years, Anderson’s name has appeared more often in court reports than in entertainment news. In 2023, he was found with a controlled substance at a London pub. Then, in January 2024, he pleaded guilty to four charges and was fined £1,345.
The answer to why Arthur Shelby is missing from the film lies in the story Steven Knight has crafted.
Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, which arrived on Netflix in March 2026, left Arthur’s fans devastated. The film reveals that he was killed off-screen by Tommy. Although Arthur appears in flashbacks, his face is never clearly shown.
Series creator Steven Knight said the decision was made purely for the sake of the story: Tommy had to do something he could never forgive himself for. Anderson’s drug case had sparked debate over whether he would appear in the film, but no official statement linked it to his absence from the cast. Anderson, for his part, holds no grudge; he said he feels nothing but love and respect for the Peaky Blinders family.
