Mystery Unmasked: Reuters Investigation Uncovers the Real Name of Street Artist Banksy
Leaving his mark in numerous cities around the world with his works, Banksy managed to keep his real identity a secret despite living in the public eye for years. The identity of the artist, who remained a mystery for approximately 25 years, was finally revealed following an extensive investigation conducted by Reuters reporters.
He has opted for a commonly used first and last name.

The identity of Banksy, one of the world's most spoken-about street artists, whose real persona remained a mystery for many years, has once again become a hot topic of debate. Based on eyewitness accounts, public records, and extensive research, Reuters has reignited speculation that the artist's real name might be Robin Gunningham, presenting strong evidence to back up these claims.
Born in 1973, the suggestion that Gunningham could be Banksy is not a new one. This name was first proposed by The Mail on Sunday newspaper in 2008, but it was never confirmed by the artist himself. According to Reuters' investigation, it is suggested that Gunningham might have traveled under the pseudonym 'David Jones', a fairly common name in the UK, to keep his identity under wraps.
Connection to Massive Attack in the research...

Another notable record in the research dates back to the year 2000. It's reported that Banksy was arrested that year for painting a billboard in New York, and his name appears in the official documents as Robin Gunningham.
The most recent part of the study, on the other hand, focuses on the artist's activities in Ukraine. After Banksy's graffiti on war-damaged buildings in the village of Horenka near Kiev in 2022, travel records in the area were scrutinized.
The investigations revealed that during that period, in addition to a person using the name 'David Jones', Robert Del Naja was also present in the region. The report speculates that Del Naja, the lead vocalist of the band Massive Attack, may not be Banksy but could have collaborated with the artist on certain projects.
The lawyer reacted to the allegations.

Following their findings, Reuters reached out to Pest Control Office, the entity managing the sales and copyright of Banksy's works, yet received no statement from the organization.
Meanwhile, Mark Stephens, who has long served as Banksy's lawyer, reacted strongly to the allegations. Stephens defended that many details presented in the published reports did not reflect the truth, emphasizing that the artist's anonymity was of paramount importance both for personal safety and freedom of expression.
