The film, described by Gaumont as a 'timeless, universal love story' set against the backdrop of cultural exchange, is set to have its world premiere this month in the Main Competition section of the Berlin Film Festival. "Black Tea" revolves around Aya, a young woman from Ivory Coast, who boldly rejects an arranged marriage and embarks on a new life in the city of Guangzhou, China.

Co-written by Sissako and Kessen Tall, the screenplay drew inspiration from an Afro-Chinese couple running a restaurant named "La Colline Parfumée."
