Can Ulkay, director of Müslüm and Ayla, takes the helm of the Turkish Penthouse.
A few days ago it emerged that Polat Yağcı would adapt The Penthouse for Turkish television, leaving fans wondering who would write and direct it. Birsen Altuntaş reports that one of those questions now has an answer: Can Ulkay will direct.
A director with big-screen hits
Ayla, starring İsmail Hacıoğlu, is based on a true story from the Korean War and was Turkey's submission for the Oscars.
Müslüm, with Timuçin Esen as singer Müslüm Gürses, topped the Turkish box office during its run.
Details about Can Ulkay's crew and shooting schedule are expected in the coming days.
The series is planned to air in January, but the cast and channel have not been announced.
According to industry sources cited in the report, talks with star actors are ongoing, but no names have been confirmed yet. The broadcasting channel and the screenwriter are also still unknown.
Polat Yağcı is preparing the project while his other series, Salty Coffee, starring Eda Ece and Buğra Gülsoy, is still on air on Star TV.
The original Penthouse follows the intrigues and romances of women living in a luxury residence.
The South Korean series premiered on SBS in 2020, ran for three seasons and became one of the most-watched shows in the country during its broadcast.
The story is set in Hera Palace, an elite residential tower where families competing to get their children into a prestigious arts school soon find themselves caught up in revenge plots and love triangles.
The Turkish adaptation will also center on six women living in the same residence.
