Turkish Comedian Deniz Göktaş Has Been Arrested
A request for the arrest of comedian Deniz Göktaş had been made on charges of 'insulting the president' and 'denigrating religious values'.

Deniz Göktaş, a comedian, had broadcasted his show 'Dead Sea' on his YouTube account from Harbiye, Istanbul, reaching 9 million views in just a week. An investigation was launched against Göktaş, with accusations of 'insulting the President' and 'inciting hatred and hostility among the public' brought against him in the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
Ceylan Sever from Habertürk obtained the statement of Deniz Göktaş, who was taken into custody. The notable lines from his statement to the prosecutor were reported as follows:
• 'The reason for the distinction between fasting and non-fasting among suicide bombers is for the sake of a play on words. I made such a joke thinking that people who fast would be more tense because they stay hungry and thirsty for a long time.
• 'Forget about the constitution, be yourself, break your shell, Tayyip' is a humorous remark made in relation to the President watching personal development videos like all of us. I don't think there is any insult or belittlement in this statement.
• As a psychology graduate and considering that the President has a stressful job, my suggestion that I could be his therapist is a humorous share, there is no intention of insult or belittlement.'
