Surrounded by seas on three sides, Türkiye is one of the few places where you can ski in one part of the country while swimming in the sea elsewhere—all in the same season. From Anatolia’s ancient cities to the snow-covered highlands of the east, this remarkable diversity is one of the things that most impresses visitors. Of course, though, no traveler can experience all these wonders at once.

Traveler Franziska Niehus responded to the words “I want to go to Türkiye” with a vibrant video. It showcased the country’s culinary hotspots, historic landmarks, coastal getaways, ski slopes, village life, places of worship, and adventure sports. The colorful scenes offered another reminder of Türkiye’s many charms.

Seven Different Turkeys.

Seven Different Turkeys.

This diversity is shaped by the country’s seven geographical regions, its coastlines along three sides, and a history of welcoming countless civilizations. Even at the table, each region has its own distinctive flavors. Gaziantep, for instance, joined UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network as a City of Gastronomy in 2015.

As for history, Hagia Sophia, which also appears in the video, opened for worship in 537, while Anıtkabir was completed and opened to visitors in 1953. The ancient city of Hierapolis in Pamukkale has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1988, and the Mevlevi Sema ceremony was added to UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2008. These sites also draw large numbers of visitors from Turkey and abroad every year for religious tourism.

When it comes to coastal tourism, Turkey ranks third in the world for the number of Blue Flag beaches. In winter, ski resorts such as Uludağ, Erciyes, and Palandöken open for the season. What’s more, you can swim in one part of the country while skiing in another at the very same time of year. The comfort of tea brewed on a wood-burning stove and hearty meals around village tables offer a whole different side of Turkey to anyone looking to escape city life.

That’s why there’s no single answer to the question, “Which Turkey would you choose?” There’s a completely different kind of holiday in Turkey for everyone.
