The new words from short form video app TikTok just keep on coming. In this article, we are going to learn another new word which is famously used in the app. It is possible, though, that you might have not heard of this word since the algorithm varies for each user. Nevertheless, the words that we try to learn would still be something that we will come across with throughout our use of the app.
The word that we are going to try and learn today is “BBL”. If you are part of the older millennials, then it is possible that you already have a preconceived meaning of “BBL” which would be “be back later”. Sorry to burst your bubble, but that is NOT the meaning of “bbl”.
What does ‘BBL’ mean?
The TikTok acronym “BBL” actually stands for Brazilian Butt Lift. Ah, yes, an app where mostly kids and teens hangout yet already talks about butts. But what is even new about this? So, instead of dwelling on why butts are being talked about on this side of the internet, let us learn what BBL means. The Brazilian Butt Lift refers to the cosmetic procedure wherein fat from one part of one’s body is taken and is transferred through an injection to their butt, making their butt (or ass) more voluminous.
When a person is said to have gotten “the BBL effect” they become untouchables or basically people who have turned into, as how this generation describes, “a bad b*tch incarnate”. They are people who cannot get enough satisfaction regardless of how much money they spend.
Where did ‘BBL’ come from?
Now while the origin of “the BBL effect” cannot be confirmed, it is often attributed to TikTok user @antonibumba. His videos mostly feature how people with the BBL attitude often navigate life and accurately describes them as “always mildly unimpressed no matter how much money is spent.”
Do you know someone who has the BBL effect?
