Another day, another new TikTok word to learn. In the TikTok Slang Origins, we attempt to discover the meaning of new words that users of the short form video app use. Some words may be a code, an acronym, or just another weird way of referring to something.

Today, we are taking a look at a romantic and comedic way to showcase people in our lives. There is no shortage of new words to learn so let us take a look at what “4lifers” means.

What does ‘4lifers’ mean?

The word is pretty straightforward as “4lifers” just refer to people that you will have in your life for life. These people may be your parents, your siblings, a group of friends, your special other, or basically any person (or even animal) that will stay with you for life, or as the Gen Zs say, 4lifers.

It is basically safe to say that anyone who sticks with you through thick or thin is your 4lifer.

Where did ‘4lifers’ come from?

The original sound is attributed to TikTok user @boobackbaby which appears to be a selfie video of him talking to a group of friends where he is heard saying “What we is? For lifers!”

Many people are now using the original sound to showcase their loved ones while they attempt to lip sync the audio while showing four fingers for “4” and the letter L for “lifers”.

Some famous TikTok users also make fun of how the younger generation tend to create trends with different hand signs such as the “4L sign” for 4lifers. Still, there are also other famous TikTokers like @noahbeck using the sound to showcase @dixiedamelio as his 4lifer.

So, now that we know what it means, who are your 4lifers?
