The Old Telecommunication Tower Transformed into an Architectural Icon

The former telecommunications tower at the summit of Mount Titlis in the Swiss Alps has been transformed into a spectacular tourist center after an extensive renovation. The TITLIS Tower, designed by the world-renowned architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron, was originally built for the Swiss postal service in the 1980s.

One of the most striking features of the project, which combines engineering with contemporary architecture, is the large glass volumes added to both sides of the tower. Thanks to the cantilever designs extending outward, visitors can enjoy the panoramic view of the Alps as if they are floating in the air.

Even though the construction process involved great difficulties due to natural conditions, today visitors are having an unforgettable experience at the restaurant, accompanied by the view of the Alps.

Even though the construction process involved great difficulties due to natural conditions, today visitors are having an unforgettable experience at the restaurant, accompanied by the view of the Alps.

The construction carried out at a point higher than 3,000 meters above sea level required an extraordinary operation in terms of logistics. Hundreds of tons of steel, glass, and other construction materials were transported to the summit via cable car systems and helicopters.

Access to the TITLIS Tower is provided through an underground tunnel from a nearby mountain station. In the renovated 56-meter-high structure, visitors can reach the summit using the elevators and stair towers located at the corners. While the lower floors of the tower house retail stores, the upper floors welcome visitors with a modern restaurant for 140 people and a public viewing terrace offering a unique panoramic view of the Alps.
