‘The Wendy Williams Show’ Closes its Curtains, Making Way for Sherri Shepherd’s New Show
After 13 years, The Wendy Williams Show comes to an end. The news was confirmed by Williams’ spokesperson, Howard Bragman, on Tuesday, February 22. 'It's been a trying time for Wendy due to her health condition. She is thankful to Debmar-Mercury, Sherri and the rest of the team who supported her throughout,” Bragman stated.
According to the spokesperson, the decision to end the show was made from a business viewpoint, and the agreement is that William can resume her hosting duties should her condition ameliorate in the future.
William has been notably absent since the debut of the show’s 13th season due to COVID-19 illness. She was set to return in October last year but her struggle with the autoimmune disorder, Graves' disease couldn't allow it. The disease forced Williams to leave the show severally before, not forgetting the time when she fainted on live television during 2017's Halloween shooting.
Apart from her health condition, William has been struggling with drug addiction, citing in 2019 that she lived in a sober house after undergoing rehabilitation. She also parted ways with her husband, Kevin Hunter the same year.
Filling The Wendy Williams Show’s timeslot is Sherri, a new show hosted by Sherri Shepherd, who confirmed the news earlier today. Sherri will debut in September. Shepherd served as a co-host on The View, which ran from 2007 to 2014.
The Wendy Williams Show premiered on July 14 2008 in select U.S. markets before expanding to the global audience on July 13 2009. It is produced by Wendy Williams Productions in collaboration with Perler Productions.
Apart from catching up on the previous seasons of The Wendy Williams Show, you can also watch Wendy Williams: The Movie available on Lifetime. The film premiered on January 30 2021, and showcases Williams' life journey as she tackles obstacles before becoming a popular talk show host.
