Are Your Windshield Wipers Scratching Your Windshield? It Turns Out the Solution Is Right in Your Kitchen!

In recent days, with the persistent rainy weather, traffic congestion has soared to almost 100%. Everyone has turned to their personal vehicles for a comfortable commute. However, driving safety in rainy conditions is of utmost importance. For instance, it's crucial to ensure that your car's windshield wipers are performing at their peak.

The most fundamental method to ensure that your car's windshield wipers effectively clean the glass and have a long lifespan is to regularly carry out physical cleaning of the wiper blades.

Ensuring that your car wipers effectively clean the windshield and have a long lifespan primarily requires keeping them clean. Over time, wipers can wear out due to usage and exposure to sunlight. Moreover, the dust, mud, and oil layers that accumulate on the rubber over time can leave marks on the glass and cause the wipers to make noise.

To restore your wipers to their original performance, you can follow these steps:

Improving Wiper Fluid

Using only water makes it difficult for the wipers to glide on the glass and reduces cleaning quality.

Windshield Washer Antifreeze: Use specially produced windshield fluids to prevent freezing in winter and to clean insect and oil residues better in summer.

Preference for Pure Water: To prevent calcification and nozzle clogging, mix with pure water or drinking water instead of tap water, if possible.

Warning: It is not recommended to put household glass cleaners in the wiper tank as they can stain the bodywork and harden the wiper rubbers.

Unclogging Blocked Nozzles

If the water is not spraying properly onto the glass, the nozzle tips may be clogged.

Needle Method: You can gently clean the residues in the nozzle holes with a thin pin or wire.

Direction Adjustment: If the water is going too high or low, you can adjust the angle of the nozzle tip towards the glass with the help of a needle.

Softening Wiper Rubbers

If your wipers are making noise because they have hardened, you can try to regain flexibility by applying a small amount of petroleum jelly or silicone spray to the rubbers. However, this method is temporary; if cracks have started on the rubber, the safest way for secure driving is to replace the wipers with new ones.

If you notice scratches on your windshield when you use your wipers, the problem is typically due to accumulated dirt on the rubber. Fortunately, there's no need to replace your wipers right off the bat. Cleaning your wipers is quite straightforward and can be done with simple materials you have at home.

Vinegar or Soapy Water: Dampen a cloth or a napkin with vinegar water or warm soapy water.

Application: Lift the wiper arms and gently wipe the rubber part from top to bottom with the damp cloth. Repeat this process until no black dirt remains on the cloth.

Alcohol Use: For more stubborn oil stains, alcohol can be an effective solution. However, avoid harsh chemicals like acetone; they can damage the structure of the rubber and shorten its lifespan.
