A study titled "Science of Scare" has been measuring viewers' heart rates and fears while watching horror films for the past four years.
According to a report by Euronews, this study has identified the scariest movie of all time.
In the project, which involved 250 participants, the 2012 film 'Sinister,' starring Ethan Hawke, Juliet Rylance, and James Ransone, was determined to be the scariest film ever made.
In the research that utilized a horror scoring system, viewers' heart rates increased by an average of 34% while watching "Sinister."
During rest periods, the heart rate was 64 beats per minute, but it rose to 86 during the film.
At the scariest moment of the film, the heart rate peaked at 131 beats per minute.
Heart rate variability also decreased by 21%. Thus, 'Sinister' achieved a horror score of 96 out of 100 in this scoring system, placing it at the top of the list.
