The new Kendrick Lamar album is finally on its way. Aside from sparse social media announcements leading up to the album, the world only received one taste of Lamar’s new record on May 8th, 2022. As part of his long-running series of similarly named tracks, “The Heart Part 5” marks an ambitious highlight for the critically acclaimed rapper.

“The Heart Part 5”

Like previous 'The Heart' entries, 'Part 5' is something of an epic, going through multiple changes and exploring his ties to his hometown of Compton once again. In the chorus, which samples Marvin Gaye's 'I Want You,' Kendrick Lamar explicitly states, 'I want the hood to want me back.' Throughout this track, he explores the different viewpoints coming with age, going so far as to speak through the perspective of others to convey the empathy of his current mode of lyric writing.

Here’s the accompanying music video for the new song – this is the only video that precedes the release of the new album. His face in the video transforms into other recognizable personalities using deepfake technology.

New Album Details

Kendrick Lamar’s upcoming 2022 record, Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers, only has a few bits of information about it. On May 11th, the album cover was released, but no tracklists are available. Another detail was revealed directly from the source – through a post on Lamar’s oklama.com, the album was shown with two CDs, possibly indicating Mr. Morale to be a double album.

Judging by his past releases, “The Heart Part 5” will probably not show up on this new album, so look for an entirely new list of songs on streaming as of May 13th, 2022!
